The New Balance 880v7 is the latest neutral, cushioned running shoe in the 880 series and is a good update to this popular model. Like it’s supportive cousin the 860, the 880 features a TRUFUSE midsole composed of 2 foam layers which act together to provide cushioning throughout the gait cycle. This is important for runners and walkers who need cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot. The Fantom Fit upper is engineered from two thin materials which are fused together to provide a lightweight, supportive and seamless fit which our customers have really liked and embraced.
The 880 features a 10mm drop, which is the difference in height between the heel and forefoot. Earlier models had a 12mm drop but the 10mm drop really hits a sweet spot for most runners and walkers that want a slightly lower heel but not a drop that is so low that it stressed the achilles tendon and the plantar fascia. The result from the 10mm drop is a lighter shoe that even your podiatrist would approve of!
In terms of durability, the 880 series will continue to be one of the most durable shoes on the market. The blown rubber outsole provides cushioning, traction on wet or dry road surfaces and is one of the most durable outsoles available.
We like this shoe a lot at Below The Knee recommend it to neutral (not pronating) runners and walkers looking for a durable, cushioned shoe with style, durability and value. – Mike
